Summary: Tokyo, 1981: A young bride disappears, leaving no trace but an old necklace out of jade. No one has seen her, no one knows who she is. The woman that never existed.
Tokyo, 2011: Jin, a talented photographer, is known for his sixth sense when it’s about photos and other person’s emotions. When he gets the offer to work with Tokyo’s Criminal Investigation Department, he moves to Tokyo, together with his 16-year-old brother.
There he starts to work together with the skilled, but eccentric young detective Kamenashi Kazuya. They are part of the department for Cold Cases, where forgotten and never solved cases are investigated again. Despite their first rather bad impression of each other, they soon learn that their skills complement each other almost perfectly.
The case they are working on seems mysterious, but harmless: Jade, the woman that had been erased from everyone's memory. But soon Jin and Kame realize that with this case they are awakening a sleeping lion, bringing themselves and everyone they love and care for into danger. They suddenly fall into a network of intrigues, murders and threats. On top of that they are both hiding something from each other and from everyone else... something no one is supposed to know...
“I can’t believe I’m grounded…” Ryo grumbled, looking at his bowl of rice grumpily.
Yuu had to laugh at that, tousling through Ryo’s hair playfully. “This time it was your own fault though. I can’t believe what you made me go through! I even landed in an aerobic class for pregnant woman and a therapeutic group, where they tried to get over their ex-lovers! Then I had to defend myself against these furious women, and explain myself why I’m such a horrible human being and worthless man.”
Ryo blinked at that. “What were you doing there?”
“Looking for you.”
Jin frowned a bit. “Why the hell were looking for my brother at a class for pregnant women? I don’t get it either.”
Yuu sighed in frustration. “I was looking at Pi’s place. His mother is a therapist and is leading these groups…”
Jin grinned out of a sudden. “You really have a talent to get into such situations…”
“Right.” Ryo chuckled. “Just like when I was setting him up with Tatsuya-kun…”
“For real?” Jin grinned, smirking at Yuu teasingly. “Why don’t I know that?”
“Because you were pre-occupied with being an ass!!”
“Can Hiroki drop by?” Ryo interrupted them, before they would get into an argument.
“Which part of ‘you are grounded’ didn’t you understand?” Jin chuckled.
Ryo shrugged a bit. “I’m not sure… I’ve never been grounded…”
“Well…” Jin stuttered. “I’m not so sure either.” He looked at Yuu helplessly, through questioning eyes.
Yuu blinked at that. “Are you two for real?” He stared at his two friends in disbelief. “Has none of your parents ever grounded you?”
“Nope.”
“WHY NOT!?”
“They were such nice parents…” Ryo smiled warmly. “Right Jin?”
“Yes.” Jin mumbled warily. “Nice…”
Yuu grinned. “Really, you two are heroes.”
Ryo frowned a bit at that, glaring at Yuu. “But I really have no idea…”
Yuu sighed slightly, sitting down. “Okay, let someone explain the rules to you who has been grounded every second month when he was still a teenager. Me. You can call your friends, but normally not invite them. If Jin is not a total softie.” Yuu ignored Jin’s glare successfully, shrugging a bit. “It’s a punishment and not supposed to be fun.”
“You have to be kidding me.” Jin mumbled. “We were already best friends back then and we still met… all the time.”
“Yes.” Yuu grinned. “Because I sneaked out of the house.”
Ryo frowned. “All the time? Are you stupid or what?”
“Hey.” Yuu complained. “You sneaked out too.”
“This was a once in a lifetime failure.” Ryo argued. “I won’t do something that stupid again.”
“Yeah.” Jin glared. “Do something like that again and I’ll ground you for the rest of your life!” he told Ryo sternly. “Now it’s just two weeks… But do something like that again and I’ll lock you into your room and throw the key away… until I die myself.”
Ryo wondered if he should actually argue with Jin about that, but then he chuckled. “I’m not really bothered about you grounding me for the rest of my life…”
“Why?”
“You won’t make it that long.” Ryo answered wisely. “When you continue eating like that, your inner organs will get too much fat, besides that your job is dangerous. And then your new lover is a bit difficult. What if you decide to commit suicide? See? I won’t stay in this room forever…”
Jin’s expression was something between embarrassed, annoyed and amused. “I think I should definitely lock you up… just in case you’ll say something cheeky again.”
Yuu laughed. “I go with Ryo here. He is totally right. You shouldn’t eat that much carbonates…”
“Oh, shut up, you two.”

Jin stretched a bit when he walked towards Kame’s apartment. He wanted to surprise the other and pick him up so that they could walk to their office together. He smiled a bit when he remembered their night together… and how Kame suddenly had found the important clue in the letter.
His Kazuya was a smart guy, definitely.
Jin was about to walk around the corner, when he frowned out of a sudden. His eyes caught a black car, an expensive one. He shook his head. He was sure he had already seen it before. Jin sighed a bit, shrugging slightly. He didn’t care that much. But when his eyes suddenly caught a well-known slender figure crawling out of the car, he blinked.
Kame? In this expensive car? Now there was another guy, he was talking through the window to Kame. Unfortunately Jin couldn’t see the man’s face, but something in the way Kame was bowing and acting made him feel uncomfortable.
Who was the man Kame was talking to? Somehow he seemed to be important… Jin shook his head. He had always been good with other people, his social skills were amazing. And he knew when something was off. So again… similar to the time on the boat and on the island, he sensed it: Something was off. Really off.
When Jin saw the car driving away, he waited for a few seconds, before he continued to walk towards Kame. He suddenly shivered, when the car passed him. As if someone was watching him…
When Jin was closer to Kame, he paused again. Kame was angling for something in his pocket, before he pulled the jade necklace out of it. Something in Kame’s face was sad. He looked at it in determination, before he hid it in his pocket again.
Jin took a few deep breaths, waiting until the other had put the necklace away, then he waved. “Kazuya!”
Kame jumped in shock, staring at Jin in surprise and fear. Jin could see the questions in his eyes: Did he see him doing…whatever he was doing?
But Jin didn’t say anything, he just put his arm around Kame’s shoulder. “I thought we could go to the office together.”
“Really?” Kame asked, sounding relieved.
Jin nodded his head, smiling a bit, though deep inside him a storm was already waking up. What was Kamenashi Kazuya’s secret?
For the first time in his life, Jin felt how it was like when trust and faith slowly started to crumble.

Ryo was bored. He dropped on the floor, grabbing Buddy who was jumping around and crawling over him. Ryo laughed slightly, his hand brushing through the dog’s soft fur. He wasn’t that small anymore, but still so adorable.
Ryo played with him for a few minutes, but still…he was bored. Being grounded was one hell of a boring thing. He definitely would avoid that from now on.
Yuu blinked when he walked by the living room. “You are bored.”
“Yep.”
“Did you do all your homework?”
“Yes, for one month in advance.”
Yuu blinked. “I will never understand you.” He smiled. “Why don’t you do anything else then? Play a videogame for example.” he suggested. “You are never bored normally.”
“You said videogames are forbidden.” Ryo explained randomly.
Yuu rolled his eyes. “My…are you always taking things so seriously. You are talking with someone who sneaked out of the house once a week.”
“I still think that’s stupid.” Ryo chuckled.
Yuu smiled a bit at that, smacking the younger one playfully. “You could get the mail for me. And then go and watch TV or play a videogame. Honestly, it’s alright. I don’t want you die from being bored.”
Ryo smiled thankfully. “That’s why you are my brother’s favourite friend.”
“Good to know that.” Yuu grinned, smiling a bit when he saw how Ryo rushed out of the door to get the mail.
He didn’t hear how Ryo came back, because he was preparing dinner. But when he set the table he saw the mail lying there, so apparently Ryo was already somewhere in his room. Yuu worked for a few hours, prepared the dinner and started to work on his new painting for his next exhibition. He was actually really thankful that he could live with Jin and Ryo here, because the house was big and there was a lot of light. For an artist this was perfect.
Yuu worked in highest concentration, but after a few hours he wondered. It was so calm. Not that Ryo was extremely noisy, but he was 16 and he wasn’t allowed to leave the house. Yuu had actually expected him to be more around him. But Ryo wasn’t anywhere in the house.
Yuu shook his head a bit, knocking at Ryo’s door. “Hey Ryo-chan! You are so quiet.” he teased. “Fell asleep?”
When there was no answer he blinked in surprise. He was sure that Ryo didn’t leave the house. He had to be here…somewhere.
“Ryo?” he asked, now clear worry in his voice. He bit his lips, hoping that everything was alright. But when he wanted to open the door, it was closed. “Ryo!? Are you alright?” Yuu called in surprise and worry. “Please answer me.”
But again there was no sign, making Yuu almost freak out. He brushed through his hair desperately, knocking against Ryo’s door loudly. “Please!!!! Answer me!!”
Something in his voice apparently was sounding so desperate that Ryo gave in. “I’m here…” the younger one mumbled, but he sounded so broken and crushed that Yuu felt worried again, this time out of another reason.
But no matter how often he tried to talk to Ryo, he wouldn’t get an answer.
******
“Okaeri!” Jin smiled a bit when he closed the door behind him. “Kazuya came along too…” He blinked when there was no answer, getting nervous immediately. “Yuu!” He dropped his bag, running towards the living room. Somehow he felt glad and touched when he realized that Kame was following him, his expression also worried.
“Jin, I’m here!” Yuu was sitting at the living room’s table, apparently lost in his thoughts. “Sorry, I was dozing off.”
Jin paused in relief, sighing a bit. “Man, you almost gave me a heart-attack.” He frowned when he saw the strange expression on Yuu’s face, realizing that his first intuition was right… as so often. “There is something wrong, isn’t it? What, tell me!”
Yuu sighed. “I’m not sure.” He shook his head. “It’s Ryo.”
“Is he away again?” Jin pressed out.
“No.” Yuu shook his head. “But something is off, seriously off Jin. He is in his room. The door is locked. And when I tried to talk too him, he only answered me once so that I would stop being totally worried and don’t freak out. He turned on the music later, but he didn’t talk at all.”
“What?” Jin stared at Yuu in disbelief. What he heard here was giving him the chills. “What happened?”
“Nothing.” Yuu rubbed over his head. “He was around me till early afternoon. Then he was bored. And I told him he shouldn’t take your rules to serious.” Yuu smiled a bit. “Sorry for that by the way. But I felt sorry for him, so I told him to go and watch some TV.”
“It’s okay.” Jin answered immediately, not caring at all that Yuu had allowed Ryo to do that. “What else? He did go to watch TV and since then he is strange? Did you say something to him?”
“No.” Yuu shook his head. “I joked around with him and he was actually in a good mood. Then I told him he could go and watch TV and I sent him to get the mail. He did it immediately. He wasn’t grumpy at all. He was actually in a quite good mood.”
Jin looked at Yuu thoughtfully. “I don’t understand that…”
Yuu shrugged. “I set the table for dinner. And I saw that he had put the mail on the table… Since then everything was quiet.”
Jin blinked out of a sudden, then his eyes widened. The mail!? Something inside him was suddenly spinning around. What if… What if… What if… What if…
He rubbed over his head, running upstairs as fast as possible. When he reached Ryo’s door, he knocked against it. “Ryo-chan?”
No answer.
Jin tried to open the door, but as Yuu had explained it, the door was closed. He sighed a bit, sitting down next to the door, trying to talk to Ryo like that. But no matter what he said, there was no answer. He heard noises in the room, apparently Ryo was shifting around sometimes. But beside that nothing, no answer, no noise.
Jin knocked with his head against the wall. He took a deep breath, going for the last possibility. “Ryo…please… What was in the mail? If you don’t want to talk to me, please…at least show me. Please, Ryo, please.”
First Jin thought that Ryo would also ignore this request, but after a few minutes he saw how an envelope was pushed through the gap under the door.
Jin recognized the paper immediately. Though it was bigger than the letters he got. It was A4 format at least, but the person who sent it had to be the same…he had a good eye, after all he was a professional photographer, so he recognized it immediately.
He shivered when he took the envelope into his hands, opening it. There were a few sheets of paper inside it. With trembling fingers Jin angled for the first paper, growing pale when he read the first line. This wasn’t a threatening letter, this was worse… because it was the truth.

But I think the blood relation didn't count. Jin was always there for Ryo, and no matter if he is adopted or not, Jin will always be his brother, because in the end he cares for him and he loves him, no matter how they are related.
And the beginning showed it: they love each other from the bottom of their hearts, no matter what they are in reality. And I think Ryo can't imagine a loife without his brother, even though the first shock will be enormous now. Poor boy...
Yuu is sooo great, he really is something...*laughs* I can imagine him sneaking out of the room, but in the end he turned into something great: Ryo and Jin's mummy. XDDDDD He really is like that. *laughs*
Oh, Kame was with his father? I think I already said it in my last comment, but I really think Jade and Kame are related. But I can't figure out how. I guess she is the sister or mother of Kame. But maybe I am totally wrong here. :D
I really love Jin's way of acting towards Kame. He does like he saw nothing, but he isn't stupid at all, and he knows that there is something going on with Kame, and I think Kame knows that Jin saw it, but he doesn't want to talk about it.
Somehow he felt glad and touched when he realized that Kame was following him, his expression also worried.
I totally love how caring Kame is, even though it's not his family, and Jin and Ryo aren't related to him, but he cares about them and their problems. Maybe it's his first time feeling like having a family? He feels connected with them, okay also because he and Jin are together, but I think Kame feels content and comforted when he is with them.
That's sad, but luckily he has Jin and Ryo and mummy Yuu now. *laughs*
I am really curious how it will go on, and what ryo will say to Jin, because in the end he has to talk with his brother.
Oh, and I want to know what Yuu is going to cook next *laughs*
I hope Kame and Jin won't seperate, but somehow I really have a bad feeling. I can't imagine that they'll stay together till the end. X_X
I really love this story to death :DDD <3 <3 <3
Thanks sooo much for writing it, and for my spot. :D

Thanks so much for this comment! I'm really happy that you like this story <3
Yes, by now I already knew you weren't too surprised with Ryo being adopted ^^
I did hint a lot that something was wrong, right? And you are right, to be related by blood is not exactly the most important thing. Though I guess Ryo is still shocked... getting to know this about his past through a letter...><
*laughs* I'm so glad you like Yuu. He brings some fun and light moments into this story :D
Totally like Jin's and Ryo's mommy and maid :D I can imagine him how he accidentally landed in this aerobic class for pregnant women ^^
These two should feel really thankful that they have him around.
Jin's and Kame's situation is complicated. They are both hiding things from each other. And they can't bring themselves to be honest towards the other.
Well, we'll see ^^
Thanks so much for reading and commenting, dear!! *HUGGLES*
