I read the book The Encyclopedia of Japanese pop culture [Book] by Mark Schilling, the book lists the most outstanding and influential examples of Japanese pop culture. Beside Doraemon, Pink lady, Maruko chan, there's SMAP!!!! SMAP is representative for JE, you can see how big it's that^^. I dont wan to brag about my bias much hahahaha.
