Summary: Tokyo, 1981: A young bride disappears, leaving no trace but an old necklace out of jade. No one has seen her, no one knows who she is. The woman that never existed.
Tokyo, 2011: Jin, a talented photographer, is known for his sixth sense when it’s about photos and other person’s emotions. When he gets the offer to work with Tokyo’s Criminal Investigation Department, he moves to Tokyo, together with his 16-year-old brother.
There he starts to work together with the skilled, but eccentric young detective Kamenashi Kazuya.They are part of the department for Cold Cases, where forgotten and never solved cases are investigated again. Despite their first rather bad impression of each other, they soon learn that their skills complement each other almost perfectly.
The case they are working on seems mysterious, but harmless: Jade, the woman that had been erased from everyone's memory. But soon Jin and Kame realize that with this case they are awakening a sleeping lion, bringing themselves and everyone they love and care for into danger. They suddenly fall into a network of intrigues, murders and threats. On top of that they are both hiding something from each other and from everyone else... something no one is supposed to know...
“So…” Koki leaned back, inspecting Uchi closely. “You’ll be around me too from now on? It’s not enough that I have this guy…” he pointed at Junno, grinning a bit. “…next to me all the time. Now you are bothering me too?”
Ryo laughed. “Don’t worry, Hiroki-kun. Koki just seems to be scary, but in reality he is a softie.”
Junno burst into laughter. “He might be the hugest softie amidst us.”
“Totally.”
“So…” Koki mused to distract his friends from this embarrassing talk. “Ryo you shouldn’t go home alone?”
Ryo shrugged. “I think my brother is over-reacting.”
“But there was a guy attacking you?” Pi wanted to know.
“Kind of…”
“Okay.” Koki nodded his head firmly. “We won’t let you alone.”
“I think it’s not that bad at all.” Ryo shrugged, remembering the huge security system Kame had installed and how the security men had reassured them. “It’s just for prevention. But Jin…is…well… he is tensed recently and so moody, so I should better obey, otherwise he will rip my head of.”
“Don’t worry.” Pi smiled. “We’ll help you. For today Uchi-kun is the one going home with you?”
Uchi nodded his head, smiling happily because he could be useful for once. “By the way, Ryo, are you getting a dog now? Akanishi-san said something about it last week…”
Ryo beamed. “Yes! Aniki picks him up today. So you’ll see him when you come home with me.”
“Lucky you.” Taguchi grumbled. “I want to accompany Ryo home too.”
“Don’t worry.” Pi grinned. “You will see the doggy tomorrow.”
“It’s so cute!” Uchi squealed. “Such a pity you already picked him up… I would have loved to see the other puppies.”
Ryo grinned brightly. “I saw them when we chose this one. They were so cute.” He dropped down on the floor next to Uchi, stroking the little dog’s fur. “Ueda-kun helped us with choosing it. He worked at an animal shelter once.”
Ueda smiled a bit when he heard his name. “You can call me Tatsuya, Ryo. Just leave this stupid honorific.”
“You really worked at an animal shelter?” Uchi asked in interest.
“Yes.” Ueda smiled. “I always liked animals.”
“You really did a lot of jobs!” Ryo sounded impressed, then he took the puppy into his arms again. “You will become strong and protect us.”
Yuu laughed when he heard these words. “It will still take some time until he is big enough to be threatening.” He grinned. “Now he is more fluffy and cute.”
“Did you already name him?” Uchi asked.
“No.” Ryo shrugged. “I wanted to search for a name together with Aniki yesterday. But then we fought again… and I forgot.”
Yuu sighed a bit at that, not sure how to react to Ryo’s explanation. All Jin and Ryo did right now was arguing. And he didn’t understand why. It had started when Ryo got attacked by this man… since then Jin had somehow lost it. Yuu would have understood it when Ryo had been particularly stubborn, but actually he was totally good and helpful right now. And he was sticking to all the things Jin wanted him to do… like being accompanied home from school. Ryo didn’t even fight Jin. But still Jin gave him no break – it was just about small things. Which led to their never-ending arguments.
Yuu forced a smile to his lips, kneeling down and patted the puppy’s hair. “So…choose a name.”
“It should be something proud… like King.” Ryo grinned.
“He is more like a prince at the moment…” Uchi answered sceptically. "Or a princess... or a prince-like dog."
Ryo smiled, turning on his back and grabbing the little dog to put it on his stomach. “How about ‘Buddy’? Because he will be my friend here…”
“I’m your friend too!” Uchi argued immediately.
“I know, but he will be a friend when I am home.” Ryo explained.
Yuu’s heart ached a bit. “Ryo… I’m your friend too.”
“Me too.” Ueda argued.
“Yes. Sorry.” Ryo stuttered. “I didn’t mean it like that!”
“And Jin is your friend too.”
Ryo didn’t answer to Yuu’s last statement. He merely stared up at the ceiling, wondering why it was so difficult with Jin recently. Jin was simply unfair. No matter what Ryo did, it was wrong. And the more he tried, the worse it became. He didn’t even want to talk to Jin at the moment, because it would just lead to another argument. And he didn’t know why. Since this incident last week Jin totally changed. If he would have been over-protective, Ryo could have lived with it, but actually Jin was not only over-protective… he was too tensed, a bit scary and way too strict.
Right now, he wasn’t his friend at all.

“We won’t get into Yamamoto-sensei’s office.” Kame mumbled angrily.
Jin frowned angrily. “WHAT!? Why!?”
“Because the case is officially closed.” Kame pressed out. “That’s the criminal department there, they won’t let us in.”
Jin sighed in annoyance, then he grinned out of a sudden. “Wait, I have an idea.”
“What kind of idea?”
“Sh.” Jin grinned. “Just wait and watch the Master.”
“What kind of Master?” Kame wanted to know, looking at Jin sceptically.
Jin chuckled. “Me.” With that he went to the police line, far away from the guys Kame had talked to earlier, and smiled at them. “Hey, I’m from the newspaper.” He pointed at Kame. “That’s my Junior waiting there…”
The men looked at Jin’s ID, then they nodded their heads. Jin smiled politely, waving at Kame. “Kamenashi, come!”
Kame hid his grin. He merely nodded his head and followed Jin. “Yes, Sir!” When he had caught up with Jin, he chuckled a bit. “I almost forgot that you are also part of the newspaper.”
Jin smiled a bit. “Told ya. You should call me Master from now on!”
“Forget it.” Kame huffed, though he couldn’t help an amused tune. “In your dreams…”
“As if I’m dreaming about you!” Jin complained, then he grinned. “Though you are pretty, of course.”
Kame blushed a bit at that, glad that Jin wasn’t looking at him at the moment. He coughed a bit, deciding to change the topic. “Let’s see what we’ll find, okay?” He angled for his folder, putting it on the desk and opening it. All the documents and clues they had gathered were there and Kame went through them carefully.
“The car?” Jin asked.
“Matsumoto is tracking it down.” Kame explained. “He is a genius with such things. But it will still take him a bit of course.” He sighed, angling for the well-known photo of the crying woman in the white wedding dress. “This should have been the happiest day in her life… and she ended up devastated… Why?”
Jin frowned, inspecting the photo again. “Somehow she doesn’t look sad though…”
“Are you crazy?” Kame blinked in surprise. “She is crying.”
“Yes, maybe she is desperate. But she isn’t looking devastated.” Jin shook his head, tugging at his hair in desperation. “This photo drives me crazy. I need more to analyze her feelings and her expression. There are so many questions flying around in my head… one photo isn’t enough. She is running away form her wedding? But she doesn’t look like running, she is rather walking. She should be crushed and apparently she really cried tons of tears, still… there is something hopeful in her eyes.”
Kame licked over his lips. “We need to find the photographer.” he rasped out. Jin’s explanation had made his stomach twist and jump in expectation. Jin had an eye for this, definitely. But he needed more photos. And Kame’s task was it to find them.
But after three hours of checking on Yamamoto-sensei’s office he and Jin dropped down on the sofa tiredly, both of them feeling annoyed and anxious. “No trace…” Jin mumbled.
“I can’t believe that.” Kame rubbed through his hair in desperation. “He has to have his private documents somewhere…”
“Maybe it was really suicide?”
Kame sighed. “What? Do you really believe that?”
“No.” Jin paused. “Do you think he would keep them at his office?” Jin asked in wonder. “I wouldn’t do that…”
“But you wouldn’t keep them at home either, right? Not if it’s something that important.” Kame argued.
“No…” Jin tilted his head. “I would search for a place to keep them…”
Kame looked at Jin thoughtfully, leaning back a bit. Jin wasn’t so wrong… The university was a public place after all. Lots of people would come and go. He sighed, tilting his head a bit, then he frowned out of a sudden, standing up and walking towards a map, pinned to the wall. “A place at the sea?” he mumbled.
Jin followed his partner, looking at the map, blinking a bit. “That’s a tiny place. I was there once… many years ago with my parents. There is just one hotel and just a few private bungalows.”
Kame frowned. “Why was he interested in this place?” His eyes gleamed out of the sudden as he sensed a new trace. This might be it. The place safe enough for the professor to keep his private documents.

“Tadaima.” Jin took his shoes off, then he tensed up immediately. There was no response coming back to him. Was no one at home? Was Ryo alright? He dropped his back on the floor, rushing into the living room. There he almost stumbled over his little brother. “Ryo?” he pressed out, feeling relieved again, but also annoyed that Ryo didn’t answer him.
But before Jin could say anything else, Yuu was already grabbing his arm, pulling him into the kitchen. “Okaeri.” Yuu smiled.
“Ah.” Jin sighed in relief. “You are here too.”
“Of course I am here.” Yuu sighed. “Really Jin, you need to loosen up a bit.” He grabbed Jin’s arm, turning him around to point at the living room. “Ryo is sleeping. Didn’t you realize? Hiroki too. They were doing their homework before, then Tatsuya showed them some boxing tricks, and then they played with the dog.”
“Oh.” Jin blinked in surprise. “You are right.” He rubbed over his temples. “He was asleep. I almost woke him up to yell at him.”
“You need to stop that.” Yuu mumbled. “Really… you are so tensed. Every little thing makes you snap. He starts avoiding you.”
Jin sighed. “Am I that bad?”
“Why don’t you ask him?” Yuu asked sharply.
Jin rubbed his tensed neck. “I’ll try to.” He paused. “The boys came home together today?”
“Yes.” Yuu nodded his head. “Ryo pretty much follows all your strange rules.”
“He was in time was he?” Jin stretched a bit. “He always freaks me out when he isn’t in time…”
Yuu shifted around a bit. “Well…”
“He was too late, again?” Jin frowned.
“Jin…” Yuu sighed. “Yes, he was too late. He is always too late. You know that. Give him a break. That’s the only thing he didn’t change. Other than that he is great. So what, he is half an hour too late? Who cares? Uchi is with him and we know that he is always too late…”
“But I’m worried when he is late…” Jin mumbled miserably. “Then I start thinking…what if…”
Yuu frowned. “What if….what? What are you hiding, Jin? I know there is something…”
Jin chuckled nervously. “That’s ridiculous, Yuu.”
Yuu glared. “Really, you two are equally stubborn. But whatever…” he tilted his head. “You need to stop this nervous attitude.” Yuu said insistently. “You are driving him crazy. And you are driving me crazy. And I think you even drive Tatsuya crazy. You two are fighting non-stop recently. You never fought like that before. And it’s always you starting it.”
Jin blinked at that. “That’s not true!”
“I’m living here. It IS true.” Yuu told his friend bluntly. “You are way too tensed recently. I understand that you are worried. I’m worried too. But you can’t drive the boy crazy like that. He needs some air to breath. Really my friend…” Yuu crossed his arms, trying to give it another try. “…sometimes I feel like you are hiding something.”
Jin winced a bit at that, but did his best to hide it. Yuu didn’t need to know everything. He sighed silently. “I don’t want him to avoid me. Or to hate me.”
“Good.” Yuu nodded his head. “Make him understand that. And stop freaking out.” He angled for some vegetables, handing them to Jin. “Help me to make something to eat?”
Jin smiled thankfully at Yuu for being able to talk to him like that. “Sure. Uchi-kun will eat with us?”
Yuu grinned. “He will stay overnight. The other three idiots will drop by too. It’s good that Ryo found some friends…”
Jin smiled a bit, peeking into the living room again to see how Ryo was sleeping peacefully, the puppy in his arms, and Uchi’s head in his lap. “I’m also glad he found friends.”
“Yes.” Yuu smiled. “Uchi is so clingy. He never had a friend before. Ryo is his first friend. I think they might become best friends.”
“That’s good.” Jin smiled brightly, padding Yuu’s shoulder. “A best friend is the most important.”
“So…” Yuu grinned impishly. “Who is dropping by for dinner from your side?”
“Well, Tatsuya is a regular guest already.”
“And…” Yuu grinned.
Jin coughed a bit. “Kame might drop by too…” He tried to smile casually, though he couldn’t help a slight blush crawling over his cheeks when Yuu merely grinned at him.

“You should really eat more vegetables!” Ryo complained, pointing at Jin’s plate.
“I think he is right.” Yuu agreed, grinning when Jin glared at him.
Tatsuya chuckled. “I don’t like them either.”
“Hah!” Jin grinned. “See? I have an ally.”
“Great.” Ryo sighed, laughing a bit when Jin tried to put the carrot stick from his plate on Ryo’s. He grinned, finally feeling how the atmosphere between them got a bit lighter. Then he frowned at Ueda. “What are you doing here!?”
Ueda laughed. “I hate carrots too.” He reached out with his chopsticks to offer Ryo his carrots.
“Hey!” Ryo complained. “What I am I that you two are feeding me like that?”
Ueda smiled a bit, brushing through Ryo’s hair before he hugged the younger one. Then he let go again, chuckling. “That’s what I thought…” he analyzed. “You are quite skinny…”
“He is right. You are too thin.” Jin grinned. “You can eat a bit more.” He turned around to face Kame. “You are actually quite thin too…”
“No…” Kame shook his head, smirking a bit. “I’m perfect the way I am.”
At that the others cracked up, making Kame blink in surprise that actually someone was laughing about his joke. He tilted his head a bit, slowly feeling how his heart was warming up to the situation here. When his gaze met Jin’s he smiled brightly, realizing how his face was feeling warm out of the sudden. This was different…and new…and it was Jin.
This time Kame saw them immediately. He had already left Jin’s house half an hour ago. It was quite late and he still wanted to prepare his and Jin’s short trip to the beach. Hence he saw… them… entering his apartment house. They for sure had thought he would be out longer.
He sighed, wondering what he should do now. Surprise them? But there was no use… They had their ways to escape. They would never hurt him. Kame knew that, he was sure about that. They wouldn’t hurt him, because they knew him. He knew them. They just wanted to warn him… a warning, sent by someone Kame knew just too well.

aww! a puppy! ryo- chan likes a puppy? i love it when these high school boys talk. so innocent and all. sometimes, i htink they are mere sixthh graders, really. but they are so adorable! :) i'm really glad that ryo found really good friends since they moved. :)
so there, i reallt knew it! hahaha! i'm so happy. there's some argument that's going to happen since the attack. that's a given since this jin is overprotective of his younger brother. i'm just sad that ryo's even avoising him now. it kinda hurts when he doesn't think of his beloved brother as his friend now :(
this case, of course this case if important. i am really thinking right now that both kame and jin's family are related to this case. so this place at the sea. i'm not sure if it's jsut a coincidence that jin and his family have gone here before, okay? but slowly, we'll know things about that :)
this thing about the brothers is kinda driving me crazy. from the prologue i knew that jin and ryo's relationship is something. and you've confirmed that there is something about ryo's past. jin clearly knows something that's why he is too tensed. but ryo's all calm and clueless. did he forget about what happened? or he really just don't know what happened that jin got so stressed out since the little accident? you mentioned about the parents. i'm now curious what kind of accident they met. it's really a bit complicaterd here because ryo's totally confused and clueless. jin's keeping everything by himself and yuu doesn't even know about it! (so it's jin's turn to keep the secrets now, huh?).
also ueda is really something! there's something in him that makes his character so interesting! i believe he's going to play such an important role in here!
kame is definitely involved in the case. and his father. that should be his father. kame's used to this intruders, right? idk how far they would go. what do they want really. why do they keep on warning him and stuff. wait, are they good guys or bad guys? even that fact is a bit blurred to me right now!

i love Ryo and his friends--they are totally normal kids on the edge of this conspiracy. Jin and Kame are getting closer--yay. i love the subtle intimate moments that occur between them. i know it's early but I want everyone to come out okay--including Yuu and Tatsuya. i am glad Yuu is living at the house otherwise, who would reign Jin in. This wise and compassionate Yuu is my favorite. But you know this already.
i want a picture of the cute adorable puppy. Because I cannot have a puppy. And just the thought of Ryo with a puppy is too cute for words. Wait there just has to be a picture of Ryo with a puppy I just saw a photo shoot of Pi with a puppy. I will look for it.
Ah i want Kame to be careful. He seems to know what game he is playing. But I keep remembering the beginning and how they will be in a tight corner later trying to survive.
I know you will solve it all so I will just enjoy the ride. Lovely.
