Summary: Tokyo, 1981: A young bride disappears, leaving no trace but an old necklace out of jade. No one has seen her, no one knows who she is. The woman that never existed.
Tokyo, 2011: Jin, a talented photographer, is known for his sixth sense when it’s about photos and other person’s emotions. When he gets the offer to work with Tokyo’s Criminal Investigation Department, he moves to Tokyo, together with his 16-year-old brother.
There he starts to work together with the skilled, but eccentric young detective Kamenashi Kazuya. They are part of the department for Cold Cases, where forgotten and never solved cases are investigated again. Despite their first rather bad impression of each other, they soon learn that their skills complement each other almost perfectly.
The case they are working on seems mysterious, but harmless: Jade, the woman that had been erased from everyone's memory. But soon Jin and Kame realize that with this case they are awakening a sleeping lion, bringing themselves and everyone they love and care for into danger. They suddenly fall into a network of intrigues, murders and threats. On top of that they are both hiding something from each other and from everyone else... something no one is supposed to know...
Kame’s eyes felt heavy when he opened them. He looked around, blinking to make a clear picture out of the blurred one that was surrounding him. For a moment he felt how his senses was going crazy… what kind of place was this? He was lying in a white room, definitely not his. He had never seen it before…
“Kame-kun?”
Kame winced in surprise when heard this voice, trying to make his mind work properly again. When he finally had a picture in front of his inner eye, fitting the voice, he sighed in relief. “Jin-kun, is that you?” his voice sounded hoarse. He coughed a bit to clear his throat.
Jin took Kame’s hand, rubbing it soothingly. His heart jumped and ached both in relief and worry. “Yes, I am here. Our chief is also here with Jun and Tatsuya. And Ryo and Yuu.”
“Where am I?” Kame mumbled, too dizzy to be surprised that so many people came to see him and were worried about his condition.
“In hospital.” Jin explained softly.
Kame’s eyes widened in surprise when he heard Jin’s answer, his memory coming back to him out of the sudden. “THE GUY!” he cried out, trying to sit up immediately, wincing in pain.
Jin glared at that, grabbing Kame’s shoulders to push him down. “Are you nuts?” he grumbled. “You should take things slow for some days.”
Kame paused. “Am I alright?” he asked carefully.
Jin smiled, nodding his head. “It wasn’t a really deep wound. Apparently you were really lucky. You lost quite some blood and they had to stitch the wound of course. And you should be a bit careful for some days.”
Kame turned his head, licking over his dry lips. “What happened?”
Jin shrugged helplessly. “After you chased the guy, I stayed with Ryo.” he frowned, cursing himself for not going after Kame earlier. “And then we heard the noise of a gun. So…I followed you and I found you lying on the street.”
Kame nodded his head. “So the guy was away by then?”
“Yes.” Jin sighed. “Unfortunately.”
Kame stayed quiet for a moment, then he laughed out of a sudden. But it wasn’t a laugh that came out of his heart, it was a bitter one. “I didn’t think he would shoot me.” His eyes grew sad out of a sudden. “But he did.”
******
When Kame woke up for the second time, he felt much better. With Jin’s help he was even able to sit up. He smiled at the other. “Thanks.”
“Want to eat something?” Jin asked, still sounding worried.
“No.” Kame shook his head, smiling slightly. “But…” he coughed a bit to get used to his voice again. “Could we talk to Ryo now? Maybe he knows something…”
“Of course.” Jin nodded his head. “If that’s what you want.” He got up, peeking into the corridor to get Ryo. Of course not only Ryo headed to Kame’s room, but also the other guys.
“Really Kamenashi, you are nothing but worry!!” Jun grumbled, trying to sound annoyed while in reality he was only feeling relieved.
Ueda nodded his head, smiling a bit. “It’s good that you are feeling better.” He pointed at the table next to Kame. “I’ll bring you something to eat.”
Kame blinked in surprise. “Don’t tell me you are working here!?”
“Every Tuesday and Thursday I am helping out.” Ueda explained calmly, a smile gracing his face before he turned around to get Kame something to eat. Kame shook his head slightly, wondering a bit about this guy. How many jobs did he have? He smiled slightly. Something about Ueda was so mysterious, in a good way.
To Kame’s relief Jin started to chase the others out of the room the moment Ueda had left them. Only he and Ryo stayed.
Kame smiled in relief when he realized that the boy wasn’t hurt. He was just totally shocked. Of course. “He didn’t hurt you, right?”
“No.” Ryo looked at Kame in worry. “It’s my entire fault. I’m sorry! I should have been more careful.”
Kame chuckled, trying to ignore the stinging feeling in his chest when he did so. “It’s not your fault, silly.”
“Kame is right.” Jin put an arm around his brother’s shoulders, smiling reassuringly at the younger one. “Who was the guy? Do you know him?”
“No.” Ryo shook his head. “I’ve never seen him before. He was just there out of a sudden.”
Jin frowned deeply. “Did he want your money? Did he say something?”
“No, he was just grabbing me and shaking me…”
“He wanted to scare you…” Kame mumbled, his gaze attached to something far away. He could see it in front of his inner eye again. The man pushing and pulling at Ryo. He had been wearing this dark black jacket, covering almost his whole body. And this hat… Kame shivered a bit. He was sure that this guy was part of the same group that was spying on him…
“You know this guy?” Jin pressed out.
“No, not the guy himself.” Kame mumbled, getting a bit pale. “But…”
“But?”
“I’m not sure.” Kame answered warily, shifting around a bit. He couldn’t explain it yet, first he needed to make sure if it was true. “But I guess this guy’s purpose was to scare Ryo-kun, not to hurt him.”
Jin frowned deeply, glaring at Kame. “Yeah! I can see that… that’s why I found you bleeding on the street!”
Kame smiled. “I’m a police officer and I was chasing him.” He shook his head. “He could have shot me. But he didn’t…”
“You think he knew that he didn’t kill you?” Jin asked in surprise, not really sounding convinced.
“These guys are trained well.” Kame mumbled.
“But why did he want to scare me? Or us?” Ryo mumbled in surprise.
Jin frowned. “It might be against me, right? Because Ryo is my brother… And he is still a kid and easy to scare. It’s clear that I would be totally worried.”
“That’s a possibility, yes.” Kame nodded his head, touching Ryo’s shoulder slightly. “Watch out from now on, alright?”
Jin smiled warmly at Ryo, brushing through his hair. “We’ll think of something. Don’t worry too much!”
******
“Ouch.” Kame grumbled, feeling totally annoyed to be such a burden. Jin was supporting him to help him out of the car. He had to grin slightly at Kame’s pouty expression. He held the other’s arm tightly, when he opened the door to his house.
Ryo was following them with Kame’s bag, smiling at the other two. “Should I prepare some coffee or tea?”
“Coffee please.” Kame sighed in relief when he sat down on the sofa, stretching a bit. “I hate it to be like that.”
“You will be alright in a few days.” Jin tried to comfort the other. “Please don’t worry too much. I am here too after all.”
Kame nodded his head. “This reminds me that we should think about how to keep Ryo-kun safe.” He smiled at the younger one when he brought him a cup of coffee. “You shouldn’t be alone too much. Just to be safe…”
Jin tilted his head, smiling warmly. He fought hard to keep his composure though this wave of worry and fear was washing over him every time he saw Ryo and remembered this scary scene. He needed to do something to prevent this from happening again! But there was no use in freaking out now, right in front of Ryo. It would just scare him even more. “You have so many nice friends, right? Don’t walk home on your own from now on. Kame-kun and I will do something about our house.”
“Yes.” Kame tried to reassure the boy. Then he paused out of a sudden, turning his head in surprise. He hadn’t realized it earlier, because he had been too busy with walking on his own weak feet. But now that he was relaxing a bit, he felt it. Or rather, he smelled it. A specific smell was lying in the air, the scent of a perfume. Kame was sure about that, even though someone else wouldn’t be able to smell it, but he knew this scent…
When Ryo had gone upstairs, Kame grabbed Jin’s shoulder. “Someone was here.”
“What?” Jin asked in surprise, trying to get what Kame had told him. Then his eyes widened in surprise, clear shock and fury in his eyes. “Are you sure?”
“Yes.” Kame whispered so that Ryo wouldn’t hear them. “I think it’s not really a danger for you at the moment. But be careful. Maybe someone should always be here so that the boy isn’t alone. Isn’t Shirota-kun living in a small apartment and has to leave it during the next months?”
“Yes.” Jin mumbled.
Kame tried his best to sound reassuring. “Why don’t you ask him to come to your place? It would be a help. He is a strong and confident guy.”
Jin nodded his head absent-mindedly, then he looked at Kame insistently. “Why are you so sure about these things? How do you know that no one is trying to kill me or my brother?”
Kame sighed, then he grabbed Jin’s arm, signalizing him to help him up. When Jin had accompanied him to the cellar, he faced the other again. "Wiretaps don’t work here.” Kame explained. “I’ll check on your house later. But this is…” he rubbed over his head. “...this is political.”
“Yeah I know that. Just what has this to do with this guy scaring Ryo?”
“That’s a political case.” Kame answered calmly. “That’s the way this groups normally work. They try to stop investigations like that… by threatening people for example.”
“So the guy who was threatening Ryo today and shot you…and the man who killed the professor are the same?”
“Not necessarily.” Kame sighed. “They normally don’t kill anyone. It’s politics after all. You can hide a lot of things, but not everything… Don’t forget that we are working for the police. It would be dangerous for them to kill me. Or a famous professor.”
“So they are not related to this case?”
“I’m sure they are. Just that there might be two different groups. The culprit killing the professor might be someone completely different. While the man who went against Ryo was trying to scare you off from investigating the case of this jade woman, the other case might not be related to her at all. Though I have to admit that these two cases – Yamamoto-sensei’s death and Jade’s disappearing – really seem to be related. But we should check on everything.”
“I understand.” Jin mumbled. “We should check on this option too. But I still think that these guys who want to scare us and the professor’s case are related to each other.”
“Yes…maybe.” Kame paused for a moment, then he smiled warily, deciding to take a step towards his partner. “Jin-kun?”
“Hm?”
“Thanks for your invitation a few days ago. I think…I made up my mind. I would love to come along to the cemetery. Though my mother isn’t buried there, but in another town. So…”
“Sure.” Jin smiled warmly, blinking a bit when Kame’s cheeks flushed. He grinned, patting his shoulder. “I’m glad.”
******
Jin looked down at his parents’ grave, sighing deeply. Was he doing the right thing? Should he just cancel this job and leave the town with Ryo? But when he looked at Kame and Ryo standing right next to him, he knew he couldn’t. He couldn’t do that to Kame, but he also couldn’t do it to Ryo.
Kame had looked through the house with some specialists and removed a few bugs, but all of the guys were actually reassuring Jin that this wasn’t anything special at all. It was actually quite common for higher policemen.
Still, the sick feeling stayed. No matter how often they reassured him, it didn’t make Jin’s worries and doubts go away. What if it was dangerous? What if they were wrong and the guy killing the professor and scaring Ryo was the same? Then the organisation behind it was an immensely dangerous one… Would they really stay away from Ryo then?
To feel a bit safer, Jin had bought a special security system for their house. While Kame had checked on all the windows and entries, making it impossible for someone to get into the house from outside.
Yuu would come to live with them from next week on. And he had made sure that Ryo would never go home alone from school. Actually he was glad about that. He had never felt comfortable with Ryo being all alone at home while he was working till late into the night.
Jin sighed silently, his gaze wandering towards Ryo’s back. He nodded firmly while he watched Ryo at their parents’ grave. They couldn’t run away anymore, Jin was already too deeply involved in this case, but he would protect Ryo in a different way. To make sure that he would really never be alone. He would protect his boy, no matter what, even if he needed to butt into Ryo’s private business. Even if Ryo would hate him then, he needed to have him feel safe.

That's great for Kame. ^^
And Jin cares so much about Ryo, that's so sweet. And I think he really will go on Ryo's nerves, but everything to protect him. And now Yuu is going to live with them?! So Ryo is hopefully in safety.
*laughs* Ueda's parts are the best. He really is Kirk, isn't he?! ^^ I am wondering which jobs he will have during the next chaps. ^^
Things are getting interesting now. I am wondering what's going on here?! I know I can't ask, because I wouldn't get an answer, but there are so many question to be solved....X_X ^^ You have to update sooooon.
Thanks I totally love the story <3 *hugs*

Yes, Jin definitely cares for Kame. And you are right, he and Ryo already somehow involved him in their family. He is Jin's co-worker after all, for these two it maybe was just natural to invite Kame and involve him.
*laughs* Well, Jin might get on Ryo's nerves if he is too over-protective. We know Jin after all... ^_^
Exactly!! Ueda is Kirk! A pretty Kirk though ^^
Thanks so much for reading, dear!!

i'm having the same thoughts as kame. but then it's also possible that jin was right. well basically they could be both right. maybe these people just act differently to confuse the two. could it be? hmm! but i'm sure these people are dangerous and jin and kame got themselves in serious trouble.
i just feel that every side details of this story means something. i can feel some arguments between ryo and jin because jin would be more than overprotective now. i think the past would come out then. but who knows? you always surprise me so these things i keep on babbling might be totally wrong! nonetheless, i love your story to bits! soooooo much! thanks for the update dear! :)

He is a strong kid!
I really like your guesses about Jin and Ryo, but I can't tell you anything at the moment ^^
Now Jin and Kame really need to investigate properly. And you are right, it's getting more and more dangerous...

Ahhh the case is political, and they find bugs all over the house, that just adds to the uneasy feeling ne. i love the fierce protective love jin has for his brother. i think Jin is right it would be wrong to run away, but i also feel that since this is political they might not be able to run away. This might follow them wherever they might choose to go.
Yay Shirota will stay with Ryo. Does this mean more Shirota in the fic? :D
Oh and also, though this is in the wrong order. I love how the Akanishi troop rallied around Kame at the hospital. And I love the lightness of the Ueda moment.
Thanks for this, thanks for this whole fic, i can't wait for the next!
Hug, hearts, and good friends. :D :D :D <3<3<3

I think he was surprised himself that there were quite some people caring for him when he was in hospital ^^
You are right, the uneasy feeling Jin has is growing... Well, who wouldn't feel uneasy? And he wants to protect Ryo no matter what.
Jin and Kame are already involved in this case, they can't run away.
Yes ^____^ There will be lots of Shirota!!!!!!! (I really have a soft spot for this guy ^^)
Thanks so much for your amazing comment!!!! I'm so glad you like this story!! <3
