Kame jumped out of Jin’s car after Jin had parked it at a parking-lot in the small town they wanted to investigate. “ARE YOU INSANE!!!!!!????”
Jin yawned, crawling out of the car and stretching a bit. “What are you getting worked up about?” he asked randomly.
“YOU DROVE LIKE A CRAZY FUCKING PSYCHIC FREAK!” Kame yelled furiously. “I was FEARING FOR MY LIFE! You CRAZY IDIOT!”
Jin watched Kame’s outburst calmly, then he shrugged. “You are alive.” he stated simply.
Kame sighed in exhaustion, feeling tired out of the sudden. The shadows from last night were still hunting him in his mind. Why didn't they leave him alone? Why couldn't he live a peaceful life? “Is that all you have to say?”
Jin smiled a bit. “Actually I hate outbursts like that.” he mused, sounding slightly annoyed, but also amused. “But I know them from my younger brother. He is also throwing these kinds of temper tantrums occasionally.” He paused. “Though he wouldn’t dare to call me ‘fucking’ or ‘psychotic’.” He grinned. “‘Idiot’ on the other side is a possibility.”
“You have a brother?” Kame asked, some slight interest rising against his intention. He bit down on his tongue the moment he had said it and saw the knowing grin on Jin’s face. “Forget it…” he mumbled.
Jin rolled his eyes. „My… are you sensitive.“ He shrugged. “Yes I have a brother. He is 16.”
“Hm.” Kame made, wavering obviously since he had actually a lot more questions to ask. He tried to sound as random as possible. “Why is he living with you?”
“Our parents died some years ago and I’m his guardian” Jin explained, before he tugged Kame along. “Let’s go!”
Kame sighed a bit, he wasn’t used to someone actually pushing him around, but Jin simply did it as if it was the most normal thing on earth. He blinked when Jin suddenly stopped, looking around a bit. “We are way too early for an investigation…” he mused.
Kame sighed. “Yes, because you cut a 4,5 hours car drive down to 3 hours! I’ve never been that scared before. Please be more careful next time.”
To Kame’s annoyance Jin didn’t even react properly to that. He merely shrugged. “So we have to kill some time now. The newspaper office will open around 9 AM, right?”
“Yes.” Kame nodded his head. “They are called ‘Flash Gazette’.”
“Creative.” Jin grinned. “What should we do till 9AM then? We could go to the park Jade disappeared in…”
Kame nodded his head, still feeling a slight headache. He hadn’t been able to sleep properly after he had discovered this guy spying on him. He couldn’t tell for sure who it was or from where he came, but actually there were not many doubts about it. He knew it. Just what should he do about it? There was no way he could ask for help. This was his problem. “Of course we will. I planned that too. But we are still too early.”
Jin shrugged. “Okay.” He pointed at a coffee shop. “This one is open. Let’s go for some coffee.”
Before Kame could even intervene, Jin was already disappearing through the door, leaving the young police man with no other choice than to follow him. When Kame stepped into the small coffee shop, he could see Jin leaning against the counter and ordering something.
“Wow, that looks delicious!!” Jin called out in awe when he saw some cheesecake. He smirked, his typical know-it all, teasing smile. “I know a young boy who would love a piece of that.”
The waitress blushed a bit, giggling slightly. “You mean yourself?”
Jin chuckled. “No, my brother.”
“Ah, you have a brother?” the woman asked in interest. To Kame’s surprise she was now joined by another waitress. Waitress number 1 smiled at the other waitress. “He is buying cheesecake for his brother.”
Jin laughed, twinkling a bit. “Maybe I’ll also take a piece for myself?”
“Oh.” One of the women giggled. “I thought men don’t like sweet things.”
Jin chuckled, pulling an eyebrow up, a teasing expression on his face. “Believe me, men ALWAYS like sweets.”
When the two women burst into laughter, Kame blinked in surprise. He had thought they would be shocked or disgusted, but apparently Jin’s laid-back charm seemed to work. For a moment Kame felt even envious. In comparison to Jin, he sucked at flirting!
Jin was on his way back when he almost stumbled over an older man gathering his coins. “Wait…” he told him, placing the plates on his and Kame’s table before he hurried back to the old man’s table and helped him to pick up the coins.
“Thanks young man!” the old one smiled joyfully.
Jin grinned. “Well, we men have to keep our coins all-together, right?”
“Why?” The old man twinkled a bit when he asked for Jin’s reasons.
Jin chuckled. “Well, just think about all the things we need coins for… Cigarettes, beer… condoms.”
The old man laughed. “I guess you are right, young man. Let’s keep our coins together.”
Kame stared at Jin in disbelief when the latter sat down on their table, angling for his coffee. “I can’t believe you…” he mumbled.
“Eh?” Jin blinked in surprise. “What?”
“People trust you…” Kame mumbled, still shaking his head.
Jin frowned. “Is this really such a surprise for you?” he asked, obviously sounding offended.
Kame sighed, he couldn’t really blame Jin for his offensive answer. They hadn’t had a good start after all. He shook his head. “No, I’ve just never met a guy like you.”
“Oh.” Jin made, apparently deciding to believe Kame. “Thanks.”
Kame watched how Jin sipped at his coffee and had to smile out of a sudden. “Your brother throws temper tantrums?” he asked out of a sudden.
Jin looked up a bit, apparently surprised by Kame’s sudden obvious interest. He put his cup down and nodded his head. “Yeah, he is a bit short-tempered and stubborn. If he wants to do something specific, like…” Jin paused here, searching for an example.
Kame had to grin. “…like going out, while it’s in the middle of the week and you want him to stay at home?”
Jin smiled brightly. “For example. Then he can be so stubborn. We always end up fighting… then he gets upset…throws his door right into my face and to punish me he is not having dinner. He has some weight issues, you know. He is a bit too thin. Hence we start arguing again, which normally works like that: Me standing in front of his door and telling him he should eat something. Him turning on the radio so that he doesn’t need to listen to my voice.” Jin grinned. “That’s just a worst case scenario though. He is never getting really impolite towards me.”
Kame blinked for a moment, then he chuckled. “You are kidding, right?”
“No.” Jin grinned. „But these are the only times we clash.“
“Beside that you get along well?”
“Yes.” Jin nodded his head, an unusual warm expression on his face. “He is a good kid. Honest, loyal and caring. I wouldn’t swap him with anyone else.”
Kame had to smile a bit at that. “It’s nice…” he mused. “To have family…”
Jin blinked a bit at that, inspecting Kame’s face carefully. But Kame was good at hiding his emotions, hence Jin had no real chance to look through him. Still, Kame had given something away, and now Jin’s interest was awakened. He would wait until the moment came when he could understand Kame a bit more.

“No self-made bento box this time?” Pi asked teasingly.
Ryo chuckled. “No, my brother had to work early. Hence he gave me some money to buy something on my way.”
“Ah.” Junno sighed sadly. “So nothing for us…”
Ryo looked a bit doubtfully. “You really liked my brother’s carrot-onigiri?”
“Well.” Junno shrugged. “I was hungry.”
“You are always hungry.” Koki chuckled. “That’s unbelievable…”
“Well…” Ryo mused. “You can have one of my mochi.”
“Please.” Koki interrupted Junno before he could say anything. “Don’t give him your lunch. Just eat it! He had enough!”
Pi laughed a bit. “You two remind me of some comedian pairing. Or a married couple.”
“Really?” Junno asked in interest, while Koki glared at Pi. Junno smiled a bit. “At least people like us, right? Though we are weird…”
Koki nodded his head. “You have a point here. Unlike…” he paused here, his gaze shifting towards the other side of the canteen.
Ryo and Pi turned around curiously, eyeing the person Koki was looking at. Ryo frowned. There was a tall boy, sitting at one of the tables – all alone – and trying to open a bottle of water. He was obviously feeling frustrated because he couldn’t do it…
“Who is that?” Ryo wanted to know.
“Uchi.” Koki answered simply.
Pi blinked. “And? What’s the problem with him?” When none of the others answered, he looked at Junno directly. “Come on, tell us!”
Junno sighed. “He is also weird… just another way of weird, not like Koki and me. He is whiny, a cry-baby and he gets upset so easily.”
“Kinda like a girl…” Koki mused.
“Oh.” Ryo blinked, his gaze shifting back to the boy who had thrown the water bottle into the dustbin now, glaring at it. His heart ached a bit at that. Something about this boy was so sad…

“You are right.” Jin shook his head in disbelief. “This park is tiny. How can someone disappear out of it?”
“Told you.” Kame shook his head. “They are hiding something form us…”
“Yeah.” Jin frowned. “But what makes them so afraid? What are these people here scared of?”
“I don’t know.” Kame rubbed his temples desperately. “This case drives me insane.” He sighed. “Maybe we’ll get to know more from the newspaper office…”
Jin nodded his head, following Kame pass the little lake. His eyes widened when they walked by a group of children playing there. “Oh!” he called out.
Kame blinked, first thinking that Jin had found something, but soon he rolled his eyes in slight frustration, because Jin merely bent down next to the kids. “You are making little boats?”
“Yes!” the children, two boys and one girl, nodded their heads.
“What’s your name?”
“I’m Erika.” The girl bowed politely. “And these are Shinji and Yuki”
“Nice to meet you. I’m Jin.” Jin smiled, angling for one sheet of paper and making a boat out of it – a perfect one, it even had a roof and little windows. The kids were in awe when he put it on the water of the lake.
“AMAZING!” one of the boys blurt out. “Why do you know how to do that?“
“It’s important to be good with theses things, if you want to be good with…" Jin wavered for a moment, not sure what he should say here. Then he decided to go the safe way. "...the ladies.” He grinned impishly. “If you want to impress them, young boy, you have to know such things.”
Kame rolled his eyes at that, but couldn't hide a grin. Jin was such a random guy sometimes, it was unbelievable. But they still had enough time, so why not playing along a bit? And apparently the kids were impressed, because the boys both giggled. “What kind of ladies do you like?”
“Those with big boobs.” Jin joked.
“Jin-kun!” Erika-chan complained. “My Mom said it’s not polite to talk of a girl’s boobs in front of another girl.”
Jin looked at her sheepishly. “Sorry, Erika-chan…”
“For now it’s okay.” she said wisely, her eyes beaming when she saw how Jin’s little boat was moving around a bit. “Can I keep it?”
“Sure.” Jin smiled. “I can show you how to make one yourself.”
“YATTAAA!” Erika smiled joyfully, watching how Jin made another boat. “That’s so cool, Jin-kun.” She finished the boat herself before she put it on the lake. Then she turned her head a bit. “You are here because of the ghost in the white wedding dress, am I right?”
Jin blinked in surprise, while Kame’s attention was back at the scene immediately. “What?”
“Shh… Erika, Mom and Dad said that it’s a secret…” Yuki mumbled.
Erika shrugged. “But Jin-kun is one of us.”
“What if he tells someone?”
Jin grinned. “Believe me Yuki-chan, there are not many persons I could tell it to. One of them is him.” He pointed at Kame. “And he is such an old and boring hag, he doesn’t have any friends.”
“Jin-kun!” Erika-chan complained. “That was not nice! You have to apologize.”
Jin sighed a bit, but when Erika kept looking at him, he turned towards Kame. “Sorry.”
Kame grinned a bit, seriously trying to suppress a laugh. “It’s okay.” His eyes were gleaming in a way Jin hadn’t seen them before. There was excitement and nervousness in them, when he knelt down next to Jin, eyeing the children expectantly.
Erika nodded her head contently, happy about so much attention. “Okay, I will tell you something…”
A/N: They are getting a hint... from people they would have never asked normally. No one ever asks the children, right?
I wish all of you Merry Christmas!!!!! ^_____^
