Summary:
Out of a sudden Yoko wakes up in the middle of a wide desert, white sand all around him, just a lake and a single tree next to him. After freaking out and panicking he has to give in to this situation. Is it a nightmare? Is it reality?
When Sho, a mysterious man, suddenly appears, Yoko’s questions grow even further. But then, out of a sudden, he can’t remember it anymore. What is he fighting for? What is reality, what dream? Is Sho an enemy or his friend?
He starts to forget about the fundamental questions of his being: Why is he here? What is this place? Who is he? But then out of a sudden another young man appears, different than Yoko and still the same… remembering Yoko that he is supposed to fight - for something that he can’t remember anymore. The path between reality and dream is a small one… and a dark one. And the price Yoko has to pay might be more than just his life.

“Tell me about love…”

"You know what love is, Subaru?

"No..."

"It feels as if you are flying high in the sky, or dive into the deep sea, or wander through an empty desert. That's how I imagine it..."

Yoko shook his head when he thought about the last evening with Sho. He still didn’t understand it. What did Sho mean? Why? All this cryptic talk, it was so scary. Who was Sho? Was he good? Bad? Would he help him? And then his questions. Sho should know about love himself… Yoko sighed a bit, remembering his first experiences with Subaru… they had tried several things out when they were in school: kissing, touching… It was fun. Though it was nothing serious. Yoko had to smile a bit when he remembered their first awkward kiss.

“Not like that…” Subaru grumbled. “Your nose is poking into my cheek.”

“You are the one messing it up.” Yoko complained, grabbing Subaru’s face and pulling him closer again. “I’ll show you that I can do it!” he called out, his fingers brushing through Subaru’s… brown… blond… dark… hair…

What…

Yoko gasped in shock, trying to remember the picture in front of him. Subaru… his best friend… how did he look like exactly?

Yoko let the basket full of apples drop down to the ground, too paralyzed to even react to this scary question. He looked around, the area around the lake grew bigger and more beautiful every day. Yoko shook his head in despair, before he turned around, running back through the orchard to the lake. “SHO-KUN!”

“Yes?” Sho looked at the other in surprise.

“I CAN’T REMEMBER!” Yoko called out in panic. “I can’t remember his face…”

“Whose face?” Sho wanted to know.

“Subaru’s.” Yoko mumbled. “I…he is my best friend… I know him since we were kids. Why can’t I remember? Sho-kun!” Yoko grabbed Sho’s shoulders with an unusual fierce gesture. “GET ME BACK! Get me out of here! What is going on here? Why does this place change all the time!? I want you to take me back! Why can’t I remember?”

Sho looked at Yoko carefully, the expression in his eyes sad and uncomfortable. “I’m sorry…” he mumbled.

“Why can’t I remember?” Yoko hissed out, this time not willing to let Sho go that easily. “What is this place? Why does it change? What price do I pay for it?” He frowned. “The more it changes, the more my real life disappears? Is it that!?”

“I can’t tell you.” Sho answered, sounding rather miserable. “I’m so sorry, You-kun… I’m sorry. I wish I could tell you… I really wish to…”

Before Yoko could say anything else, he could see something moving in the corner of his eyes. “Oh my god…” he breathed out. “The guy we found.” He rushed towards the black-haired guy’s side, kneeling down next to him. He didn’t want him to wake up in this surrounding, not knowing where he was… and panicking. He didn’t want him to feel what he had felt when he opened his eyes here, when the whole area was a desert, totally empty. He didn’t want this kid to feel scared and lonely and desperate.

“Hey.” Yoko whispered softly, when two dark eyes looked up to him. For a moment he was afraid that the guy would over-react now, feeling frightened and shocked to have someone he didn’t know next to him.

“I…” the guy coughed, his eyes looking at Yoko as if he was still far away. “…am sorry.”

“What for?” Yoko took the guy’s hand in his, stroking it softly. How old was he? Around 16? Not a child anymore… but still, he seemed to be so fragile. “What’s your name?” he asked softly.

“Ryo…” the guy whispered, he turned his head a bit, his gaze catching Sho’s figure, who was keeping his distance. As if he was afraid of this boy that wasn’t supposed to be here. Out of a sudden Ryo’s eyes widened in shock, he tugged at Yoko’s hand, grabbing it tightly, clear panic in his eyes. “Make him go! Go away! He should leave… make him leave, please…”

Yoko turned around in confusion, eyeing Sho in surprise. Why was Ryo so frightened by Sho? “That’s Sho-kun…” he told Ryo softly. “He won’t do anything to you…”

Ryo tugged at Yoko’s hands a bit more, before he broke down again, his eyes slowly closing again. “Make him go…” he whispered, tears in his eyes.
