Summary:
Out of a sudden Yoko wakes up in the middle of a wide desert, white sand all around him, just a lake and a single tree next to him. After freaking out and panicking he has to give in to this situation. Is it a nightmare? Is it reality?
When Sho, a mysterious man, suddenly appears, Yoko’s questions grow even further. But then, out of a sudden, he can’t remember it anymore. What is he fighting for? What is reality, what dream? Is Sho an enemy or his friend?
He starts to forget about the fundamental questions of his being: Why is he here? What is this place? Who is he? But then out of a sudden another young man appears, different than Yoko and still the same… remembering Yoko that he is supposed to fight - for something that he can’t remember anymore. The path between reality and dream is a small one… and a dark one. And the price Yoko has to pay might be more than just his life.

They disappeared. Just like that they disappeared. Ryo was leaving. Yoko wasn’t able to stop them, of course he wasn’t. In the end, they were just turning into an invisible nothing, leaving Yoko panting and crying in the water.

“Yu…” Sho whispered in worry.

Yoko took a few deep breaths, then he turned around, punching Sho right into his face. “WHY!?” he yelled. “Why did he take Ryo away!? Why did you let him take Ryo away?”

Sho didn’t say anything, just letting Yoko hit him as often as he wanted to. Yoko gasped for air, feeling unbelievably tired out of a sudden. “Why aren’t you even bleeding? Why can’t I hurt you?” he cried out in desperation.

“Because…” Sho mumbled, tears glimmering in his eyes. “Because… I’m part of you.”

“You are real, aren’t you?” Yoko breathed out. “Even though I was the one making you up, you are still real. You have to be real, because your power is real. So why can’t I hurt you?”

“I’m just a surface.” Sho answered silently. “I’m not human. You can’t hurt something that’s actually non-existent. Whose body is non-existent.”

Yoko stumbled out of the water, dropping down on his knees. “I promised.” he whispered sadly. “I promised to watch out for him. I promised that I will protect him. I told him that everything will be alright again.”

“Yu…” Sho mumbled, kneeling down himself and wrapping his arms around Yoko, his head leaning against Yoko’s. “I’m so sorry… this wasn’t even supposed to happen. This is… it was impossible. He shouldn’t have been here. I’m so sorry I couldn’t stop you seeing it. I wished I could.”

“I promised.” Yoko mumbled. His heart was aching, as if it was breaking right now. Was that even normal? He didn’t know Ryo that long after all, but still he had felt so attached to him. It seemed like he was clinging to something he couldn’t remember anymore. Something important, but no matter how hard Yoko tried he couldn’t put a finger on it yet.

“I know.” Sho answered silently, tears burning in his eyes. “I know…”

“What’s happening to him now?” Yoko wanted to know.

“I don’t know.” Sho answered silently. “I don’t know… That’s the truth. It’s just between the Human and his guardian. Just they know the truth. Takki knows it. Ryo knows it. But none of us will find out the truth.”

So he had to live with his guilt? Not knowing what was happening to Ryo and if he was safe or not. Forever. Again here it was, something inside Yoko’s stomach was pulling and twitching. “Who was he?” he asked out of a sudden. “Why was he here?”

Sho sighed helplessly. “I don’t know it. I’m just here because of you. I don’t know anything about him. I asked Takki though…”

“What did he tell you?” Yoko asked in surprise.

“Nothing.” Sho smiled slightly. “Just like I didn’t tell him anything about you. He was wondering too, you know? Why Ryo suddenly disappeared from his own place and came to yours. He asked me questions about you, but I couldn't answer them. We are so attached to you guys that we can’t spill your secrets.”

“Do you think he is somehow attached to me?” Yoko asked out of a sudden. “There is something I can’t remember. I know it, I feel it, but no matter how hard I try I can’t remember it.”

“It’s a possibility that he has something to do with you.” Sho admitted warily.

Yoko felt how this guilty feeling was overwhelming him again, strong and unmerciful. He breathed in deeply, the air in his lungs almost hurting him because he had cried so much. He looked at Sho insistently. “Why can’t I hate you?”

“Because you made me to love you.” Sho explained silently. He pulled back a bit, taking Yoko’s face in between his hands. His eyes were full of warmth and love when he bent forward to kiss Yoko’s lips softly. “I love you…” Sho whispered.

“I…” Yoko was looking at Sho with wide-opened eyes, too surprised and too confused by all this to grasp everything. Out of an instinct he leaned into the other’s arms, letting him comfort him for now.

It was so unbelievable, so impossible to grasp it… Sho’s hands on his body were so real, his lips, his kisses, his touches… they weren’t illusional at all. They were real. Yoko arched his body into Sho’s touches. He was enjoying it and at the same time he was still so full of all kind of feelings that it really felt like a dream. Like the shadow of a dream.

When he woke up the next day, he blinked in confusion, looking around. Sho’s arms were wrapped around him, his face resting against Yoko’s shoulder. Yoko looked at the area around him. The lake… the palm-trees… it was the same like always. At the first glance. But when Yoko concentrated, scanning the area more properly, he suddenly felt that something was different.

He gasped when he realized what it was. There were parts missing… trees… parts of the field… The area wasn’t that huge like before. Yoko blinked in surprise, slowly realizing that it was changing… this place was changing. Just like Ryo had wished for it.

“So, you did it?” Sho whispered next to him.

Yoko winced, he hadn’t realized that Sho was awake. He turned his head, looking at him apologetically. “Sorry for waking you up.”

Sho shook his head, bending forward to kiss Yoko softly. He closed his eyes. “You fought it.” he mumbled.

“Fought what?” Yoko wanted to know, though he already knew the answer himself. Still he needed Sho to actually confirm his thoughts.

“Fought this place.” Sho stated. “First when you woke up here you gave in, accepting your fate. You didn’t want to fight it at the beginning.”

“Why didn’t I want to fight it?” Yoko asked silently.

Sho smiled slightly at that. “The answer is in your head. Only you know it. One day you will understand it.” He looked around a bit. “But suddenly you fought the best you could. You didn’t want to loose your memories and your real home. And then you found out the truth about me…”

“So finding out the truth was the key?” Yoko asked. He looked around in confusion, shaking his head. He went through all the things that had happened. His heart hurting and aching again when he remembered Ryo. Panic flooding him once more when he remembered the day when he started to forget about his memories, when things became blurred. Then the surprise and joy he felt when he realized who Sho was.

Yoko blinked out of a sudden. Wait! He closed his eyes, recalling the moment he had remembered Sho… It was yesterday he had suddenly realized who Sho was. Yoko frowned, before his eyes grew wide. How did this slip his mind!? Okay, he was surprised and overwhelmed when he realized who Sho was, but at the same time, there was something else. The scene with Subaru… the day when they had made up their loves. He had remembered it clearly. Subaru had come back to his memory! He hadn’t lost him, his pictures weren’t blurred anymore. This was what Sho meant! He had fought it. He had fought this place, he had fought the knowledge that he was loosing something important.

Yoko rubbed over his eyes, before he put a hand on Sho’s shoulder. “And now?” he asked carefully.

Sho stood up, pulling Yoko up with him. “There are normally two options. If you hadn’t fought it, I would take you with me.” He paused here, to Yoko’s frustration he didn’t explain his words any further. In the end it seemed like something about Sho would always remain a mystery to Yoko. “But you did fight it. So, you can decide.”

“Decide what?” Yoko wanted to know.

Come.” Sho smiled, pulling Yoko along. “I’ll show you.”

A/N: It's slowly coming to an end!! I think some mysteries were solved here, but some are still open, right? ^^
