Can you decide on your own destiny?

Jun leaned back a bit. "So this is the whole story…“ He looked at Ryo in surprise. “This was one heck of secret you kept.”

“Exactly.” Jin grumbled.

Ryo smiled apologetically. “I had no other choice. Please believe me, that it was not that easy for me.”

Jun sighed. “I know. Of course I understand, but I still don’t like it. I can’t help but imagine the things that almost happened…”

“Let’s just be thankful that everything ended in a good way.” Ryo interrupted Jun's gloomy thoughts, before he looked at their guests warmly. “Do you want some more tea?”

When Kimura nodded thankfully, Ryo wanted to jump up, but Takki pulled him down on his seat again. “Really…” Takki chuckled. “You are still not totally healthy. You should keep it slow. That’s what Sho-kun told you.”

“Yes.” Sho sighed a bit. “Honestly, you are the most difficult patient I ever had.”

“He is right.” Jun grinned a bit, getting up. “I’ll get the tea…”

“But you don’t know how you make it properly…” Ryo argued carefully, making Jun glare a bit.

“It’s tea! How difficult can it be to make some?” Jun sighed slightly, before he grinned out of a sudden. “And no matter how bad it tastes, they will drink it. They are our guests after all and don’t want to be impolite.” He smirked a bit towards Yamapi. Secretly he decided to definitely tease Jin for that. Having a lovey-dovey night with a Hunter… really impossible. But then, it had also saved them. “Say…” he put the cups in front of Kimura and Yamapi. “The curse is broken now?”

“Well…” Kimura smiled a bit. “I guess so. But I can’t tell for sure of course.”

Ryo tilted his head a bit, looking out of the window. “You know, I wonder if there ever was a curse.”

“What?” Jin blinked in surprise.

“Maybe it was us who made one out of it.” Ryo explained softly. “Maybe it hadn’t been one from the beginning. Maybe it was simply a spell the Empress used. But over the time when no one used the necklace correctly, it became a curse. You know… when you always hear a certain legend, always hear about your fate… you are making it come true. Like a self-fulfilling prophecy.”

Jun sighed a bit. “I guess our inscrutable little Vampire is back.” He smiled a bit when Ryo showed him a sad smile. “But it’s okay. We wouldn’t like you any other way.”

“So it was all for nothing?” Sho asked in surprise.

“Of course not.” Ryo explained. “We broke out of a pattern like that. With Aniki’s step against his destiny, with his want to search for his real fate, we made the first step out of this self-made circle. It’s neither pathetic nor unnecessary what happened. In the end we won over it.”

“You are right.” Jin smiled. “The moment I almost lost my most precious, I realized it… that the darkness inside me is gone…”

“And the pain inside me got erased.” Ryo added.

“Thanks to you guys who opened the door for us.” Jin smiled.

“Well…” Kimura returned his smile. “We were prepared. And never put off the necklace, so we were able to react as fast as possible.”

Ryo leaned back a bit, smiling warmly at Jin. “I think you would have stopped nevertheless.”

Jin shook his head, wondering why Ryo was having so much faith in him, while he himself couldn’t feel or see it at all. “I don’t think so. I think I would have gone insane without all of your help...” he mumbled, sounding miserably.

The younger one tilted his head. “You think so, because you got used to this thought. You think you wouldn’t be able to stop yourself… but truth is you would. And we did. We were close enough as brothers and I was important enough for you. You wouldn’t have killed me. And don’t forget that there was also Jun, he would have stopped you too, though he is actually not part of the necklace's story.”

“Yes.” Kimura nodded his head. “There are more ways to approach one’s destiny.”

“And now?” Jun asked. “What are you guys up to now?”

Kimura smiled a bit. “We talked about this earlier. And we’ll stay here.”

“What?” Jin blinked in surprise, staring at Kimura in disbelief. “I somehow feel like everyone does what he wants to do at the moment.” He wanted to sound stern, but couldn't help the amused tune in his voice. Secretly he twinkled towards Yamapi, grinning a bit.

“I don’t think it’s that simple.” Kimura smiled slightly. “Many many years ago our kind swore an oath towards the Empress. And we still carry this promise inside us. Hence we’ll stay at her side and support her. Or rather…” he looked at Ryo. “Since she isn’t alive anymore we’ll stay at the side of her successor.”

“Great.” Mika chirped. “And we even have a Doctor here. That’s good because I’m close to giving birth.”

“I can’t believe that you are so calm about that.” Yamapi shook his head.

She stroked over his shoulder a bit. “Of course you don’t understand, because you are not a woman. And you are still so young.” She smiled a bit when Kimura stroked over her belly, feeling his child kicking against his hand. “Takuya does though…”

“I’ll count on your help.” Kimura bowed a bit towards Sho.

Sho nodded warmly. “Of course. There is nothing more beautiful than the birth of a baby.”

Jun sighed almost tiredly. “Say Jin, didn’t we start as a family of three some years ago?”

Jin chuckled. “You are right. Now we have an immortal Doctor around us.”

“A Human teacher.”

“Two knights.”

“And a pregnant Vampire woman.”

“Hence soon a baby.”

“Yeah….” Jun mumbled. “I think I’m getting a headache right now…”

“Here.” Takki put a blanket on the ground, sitting down there.

Ryo sat down next to the other, a sunflower in his hand. He sighed. “I never was able to walk by them without taking one.”

“Why?” Takki asked softly.

There was a sad smile on Ryo’s lips. “It reminds me of my mother. I guess it must have been so difficult for her to fall in love with the successor of the Emperor and give birth to two sons… She knew she was cursing them by giving birth to them.”

“Maybe.” Takki smiled warmly. “But she also loved you dearly. And the love of a mother can’t be erased so easily.”

“I guess you are right.” Ryo smiled. “Just think of Mika-chan. The baby is so cute.”

“Yes.” Takki laughed. “But just when you or Mika or Takuya are with it. When you three aren’t around it’s just totally driving the rest of us crazy. I don’t think I ever saw Sho-kun that desperate before…”

Ryo smiled a bit. “But they are having fun.” he giggled a bit. “Jun is crazy about the baby. Honestly, I couldn’t believe it myself. I guess it gave him back hope, seeing a new-born life. Actually I also almost lost faith that things would turn out well. But then… I also never could loose hope.”

“Gladly you always clung to this tiny piece of hope.” Takki bent forward a bit, his hand stroking over Ryo’s cheek, before he pulled him into a deep kiss. Ryo smiled at that, feeling how his heart was beating. Now that all the pain was erased from him and he only had to deal with his own pain and anger and sorrow, he felt so light. It was different that way and he could finally breathe alone.

When Takki drew back a bit to gasp for some air, Ryo lied down on his back. He winced in pain, sitting up immediately again. Takki’s hand slipped under Ryo’s shirt, feeling the scars and wounds there. “You still have to be a bit careful.”

“It’s healing.” Ryo told him. “But you are right, I guess.” He lied down on his stomach, feeling Takki’s fingers on his skin. Takki’s hands always felt so warm and tender, he couldn’t get enough of them.

Takki smiled, his fingers touching the wounds on Ryo’s back softy, then he brushed over the other’s shoulders. When Ryo felt the other’s hand stroking his thighs, he pushed himself up a bit, smirking at Takki. “Didn’t you want to have a simple romantic afternoon?”

Takki turned over, lying on his back now, angling for Ryo’s hand. He chuckled. “I got carried away, your brother is just too protective when we are at home.”

Ryo had to smile at that explanation. Jin was really watching out way too much for him. He grew even more protective after what had happened between them. Ryo wondered how long it would take Jin to let go of his own guilt again. But at the same time he knew that it wasn’t that simple for Jin, it was a burden he might carry for a long time. Actually they were both carrying it and none of them could help the other. They had to deal with it on their own.

“Ryo?” Takki broke the silence between them. He turned to the side, his hand stoking over Ryo’s face softly. “What when I die one day?”

Ryo looked up at the sky, sighing a bit. Maybe it was his fate that he would never be allowed to be entirely happy. But at least he was allowed to be happy for a moment. “I want to enjoy and grasp every moment I am together with you.” he explained. “I want to be with you forever. No matter how long ‘forever’ really will be. We can’t change what you are, but we can make the best out of it.”

Takki smiled a bit, wrapping his arms around Ryo’s waist and pulling him closer. “You are right, let’s enjoy the time we have.” He looked up at the sky for a moment. “And who knows what my fate will be. I didn’t find my purpose yet. Unlike Pi and Takuya. And you and your brother. Jun, Sho and I are still searching.”

“We’ll find it.” Ryo told him. “We’ll find your role in this world, I promise.”

“Damn!” Pi tried to keep his voice down when Jin pushed him into the mattress almost too fiercely. It was as if Jin was making up for all the months they had spent apart. And actually they didn’t grow tired of it.

Jin was passionate, and this was exactly what Pi liked. He sighed a bit, when Jin’s hand ran over his body, his hips rocking against Pi's. Pi gritted his teeth a bit, for a moment remembering that he had a training session with Kimura tomorrow.

Great. Kimura would totally scold him for being not concentrated at all. But who could stay concentrated after such a night?

“Hey.” Jin whispered into Pi’s ear, his voice both soft and teasing. “You are not paying attention to what I’m doing… maybe I should double my efforts?”

Pi groaned at that, his head dropping to the side. Then he smiled, shaking his bothersome thoughts off. He could still think about his training tomorrow. Hence he wrapped his arms around Jin’s neck, pulling him into a heated kiss. “I don’t know what you are talking about… I’m totally here.” He grinned. “But I doubt that you are able to double your efforts…”

“Yeah?” Jin frowned deeply. “I’ll show you then…”

“You know…” Pi blinked in surprise when he lied down next to Jin. “This is actually stunning. I can't believe that this world is actually pretty. I just saw the dark sides of it till now.”

“I’m glad you like it.” Jin smiled a bit. He had dragged Pi up the roof top so that he could see the whole country lying in front of him.

Jin lied on his back, feeling tired. It was rare for a Vampire to feel that way, but slowly he could understand Ryo who had always appreciated such rare feelings. He turned his head to look at Pi who was lying next to him, his fingers moving over Jin's hand.

“So…” Jin mused. “When are you leaving?”

"Eh?" Pi winced a bit at that, his fingers cramping in shock. He looked at Jin in surprise. “How did you know?”

Jin looked at the other through inscrutable eyes. “You shouldn’t underestimate my abilities… Of course I realized.”

“I will be coming back.” Pi mumbled.

“I know. That’s why I’m letting you go.” Jin smiled a bit.

“I want to search for others like me and Takuya. Just because we broke this curse and won this one war, doesn’t mean we won every war.”

“You are right.” Jin sighed sadly. “There are all kind of wars going on right now.”

“That’s why I need to look for other Hunters who are different, so that one day we can stop what’s happening in this world. I finally learned that this is my destiny.” Pi explained. “Takuya will stay here, because we swore an oath towards the Empress after all, besides that he is a father now.” Pi smiled slightly. “It became my job now to follow his steps and do what he did before. I’m his student after all.”

Jin stayed quiet for a moment, then he reached out his hand, resting it on Pi’s chest. “It's okay.” he mumbled. "As long as you'll return to this place, I will understand."

“Hey guys.” Jun sat down on the roof top, next to Jin and Ryo. He smiled a bit at them. “Where are the others?”

Ryo smiled warmly. “I guess when it’s in the middle of the night we are the only ones who are awake.”

“True.” Jin stretched a bit, before he put his arms around Ryo, pulling him closer.

Ryo rested his chin on Jin’s chest, looking at Jun. “You are looking worried.”

“I am.” Jun told them firmly. “Mika’s baby seems to be sick…”

Jin chuckled. “It’s not sick. It’s just moody…”

Jun frowned deeply. “You know, you could take things more serious!” he paused out of a sudden. “Wait, was that the baby? Is it crying?”

“No!” Ryo giggled slightly. “Oh Jun. Who would have believed that out of all you would be the one falling totally in love with this little child.”

Jun smiled silently. “I always wanted to have children. You know, when I was still married and when she was still alive.”

Ryo raised his hand a bit, stroking over Jun’s shoulder. “I’m sorry for that.”

“It can’t be changed now.” Jun sighed. “All we can do is to live our life properly… for the sake of those we have lost. I don’t want her to be sad about me.”

“She won’t…” Jin told him, but before he could say anything else, a loud and high-pitched scream filled the air. Jun was up his feet immediately.

“That’s the baby.” he called out euphorically, climbing down from the roof. “I’ll help Mika…”

Jin smiled a bit, nuzzling his nose into Ryo’s hair. “At least Takuya-kun will have some calm minutes then.” He paused. “Do you think Jun is happy with Sho?”

Ryo smiled slightly. “I think he is better with Sho. Happy is a strange expression. I don’t think any of us will be happy any time soon. But things get better when we meet someone who supports us and who is at our side. And who we want to support and cherish. Someone we can live with. No matter how dark or bad we might be, this person will always think that the sun shines above us. And we’ll think that the sun shines above him. That’s what love is about.”

Jin leaned back a bit, his thoughts wandering towards Yamapi. Maybe he wasn’t really crazy in love with him yet, but a Vampire’s feelings were growing slower than others. And with every day that passed Yamapi got more important for him. And he could slowly understand his brother’s previous actions, because Ryo already was madly in love with Takki.

He sighed in frustration about his own confusing feelings, looking up at the sky. In his thoughts he was with Pi now, trying to feel where he was and if he was alright. Pi was strong and he had learned a lot from Kimura. It was necessary that he left them, because none of them could live in a bubble here, living a peaceful life, while everything was collapsing around them. Pi was doing a job only he could do – finding other Hunters that still remembered their purpose. Jin smiled a bit. I swear, if you don’t come back, I’ll rip your head off.

I will come back.

A/N: Here it is, the final chapter. I know, it's not a bubbly, pink and cheesy happy end, but I think none of you really expected a real happy end, right? After all there are still so many dark clouds above them, but the guys (and Mika) are finally taking a step towards these clouds.

Yes, it is not a fairytale ending but each of them found their happiness.
I think for Ryo, Jun and Jin, it is perhaps the first time that they are truly happy and contented. They know they place and destiny in this world.

Pi found out his destiny and no matter where he travels he will return to Jin because they are bonded and love each other. This is what I believe.

Thank you for this fic.
